Haber Can't Sing
by Jeremy Binckes
Sophomore goaltender Melissa Haber has been one of the two anchors in goal for the Terriers this year. Last year, she posted a team-best 2.12 GAA. Unfortunately for Haber, one fact remains: she sings like a sieve.
“Contrary to what many people believe, [Haber] has a great singing voice,” said junior co-captain Gina Kearns. “Her song choice sometimes isn’t the greatest, but she can hit the high notes.”
Haber describes her voice as “angelic,” and she’d sing anything except for country (you can breathe easy, Dixie Chicks).
Before and after Sunday’s 3-1 loss to the University of New Hampshire Wildcats, Haber treated Terrier players, coaches, trainers and captive WTBU reporters to her vocal prowess on the bus ride.
Assistant coach Erica Silva has been the harshest critic on the team to Haber, as well as to her alleged partner-in-crime, sophomore defender Melissa Tetreau. But one question remains: who purchased the karaoke machine that currently resides in the locker room?
For the record, BU head coach Brian Durocher has pled the fifth. But fear not, everyone. Boston University’s marketing department hopes to give Haber her time in the spotlight by having her sing the National Anthem or Canadian National Anthem sometime in the school year. This is not a joke. Stay tuned to the WTBU sportsblog for more details as they come about.
Haber will defend her net, but not her voice, Sunday afternoon against the Dartmouth Big Green. Dartmouth is coming off a victory in their first and only game of the season, a 4-3 overtime victory against Vermont. Senior captain Nicole Ruta scored the game-winner, a shorthanded goal 2:11 into the extra frame.
Meanwhile, the Terriers will try to find a way to score on junior goaltender Carli Clemis. Last year, Clemis posted a solid 1.77 GAA and .922 save percentage. Tune into wtburadio.org for the game at 3 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 2:40.
