Programming Note 5/17/08

It is with the utmost disappointment that WTBU must announce that it will not be broadcasting Saturday's NCAA quarterfinal women's lacrosse game between the University of Pennsylvania and Boston University.

Due to graduation ceremonies at Penn, Saturday's game has been moved to Drexel Univesity's Vidas Field in Philadelphia at 1 o'clock. Unfortunately, Vidas Field does not have the facilities necessary to broadcast the game.

Should the Terriers win, and advance to the Final Four next weekend, WTBU will be at Towson University to call all the action.

The Boston University Terriers swept the University of Vermont Catamounts this past weekend, defeating them in three straight games. The Terriers took both ends of the doubleheader on Saturday, winning game one by a score of 7-1, and game two by a score of 2-0. The Terriers won game three of the series on Sunday, 7-2.

The Terriers got stellar pitching performances from junior Cassidi Hardy, and sophomore Megan Currier.

Hardy went the distance in game one on Saturday, pitching seven innings, giving up just three hits, while allowing only one unearned run. She also struck out seven and walked five on the day. In game two of the doubleheader, Currier pitched a shutout. Currier allowed just two hits and one walk, while striking out five.

On Sunday, Hardy and Currier teamed up to complete the sweep. Hardy struck out seven over six innings, while allowing two runs, one earned. With the Terriers leading 4-2 in sixth inning, Currier began to warm up, but by the time she entered the game in the top of the seventh inning, the Terriers had scored three more runs to make the score 7-2. Currier set down the side in order in the seventh, as the Terriers completed their first conference sweep of the season.

The early-season sweep puts the Terriers into a tie for first place in the conference standings with the UMBC Retrievers, who are also 3-0.

Junior shortstop Melissa Dubay earned conference Player of the Week honors for her stellar play over the last week, during which the Terriers went 6-1. Dubay went 10-for-20 over the seven games, driving in eight runs. Six of those ten hits went for extra bases, including two home runs.

The Terriers take a break from conference play this week, as they take on two squads from the Ocean State. The Terriers will take on Providence College Wednesday afternoon at four o’clock, and the University of Rhode Island Thursday at the same time. Both games can be heard on WTBU. Wednesday’s game will be on the main stream, while Thursday’s will be on the alternate stream. Go to wtburadio.org, and click on the “calendar” for more details. The Terriers resume conference play this weekend as they travel to Stony Brook for a three game set against the Seawolves.
